This lock is pretty much the gold standard in Europe. There are tougher locks (with a weight penalty) and there are lighter locks (with a security penalty.) Some people like Kryptonite, some people like Abus. I fall into the Abus camp because of how they source their metal, and because of how easy it is to key the locks alike. This lock is likely sufficient for most people's biking needs. I like to use U-locks as my main lock, securing the rear wheel inside the rear triangle, a la Sheldon Brown. This size allows you to secure three bikes (snugly) to the post of a street sign. The smaller size might allow you to do two. It's a very lightweight lock (to me anyway - I also own the 59 series U-Lock because I'm insane about security) and this is great for my wife, who didn't want to schlep around 30 pounds of locks like I do. The parabolic shackle seems very sturdy, and the square shape makes it more difficult to cut. I own a Tubus LOCC bike rack and there is an adapter that allows you to mount this lock to it. I'll be buying that soon so as to free up room in my bag for more locks. I had this keyed alike to another Abus lock - Lockitt is great about that.
