ABUS PLUS KEYWAY

About ABUS PLus and X-Plus key systems

In locks, the keyway is probably the most overlooked part.  All high security ABUS motorcycle locks use the patented high security PLUS keyway. Unlike conventional barrel (tubular) or pin tumbler cylinders, the plus keyway works with floating discs.
These floating discs make it extremely difficult to pick an Abus lock.  Only the correct key aligns all the discs to the correct position so that the side bar falls in which then allows the key to be turned the full 180 degrees.  When the key is turned back in slide 4, the discs are automatically scrambled.
Their may be someone worldwide who is able to pick an ABUS PLUS locking mechanism but it will not be easy and certainly not by the average thief, looking to grab your stuff.
Because there are no springs, the mechanism is guaranteed to work for life and smoothly down to -40 F degrees.

Why not use a barrel type (tubular) like some lock manufacturers do?
Barrel type cylinders can be drilled out and are sometimes easy to pick.
Try and drill out the PLUS cylinder and you will notice that the first disc is hardened and spins freely with the drill bit.

Abus Xpus keyPin tumbler cylinders usually only have around 1000 different combinations at most.
The Plus cylinder has between 30,000 (6 plate) and 250,000 (7 plate) combinations while the newer XPlus key system has up to 1 million differs

Keys can only be obtained from ABUS and can be ordered here.
