Day & Night transitional lenses automatically darken in sunlight and then adjust again on overcast days or at night.
Photochromic lenses are influenced by UV light so you will have less or no color change at all when behind UV blocking glass. Pretty much all vehicle windshields block UV light to a certain degree and so do some helmet face shields.
